December Programs

It is craft time at the Homewood Public Library.
Wednesday, December 3rd and 10th - 4:00-5:00pm
Bring your family and create holiday crafts and memories that will last a lifetime.

Wednesday, December 17th - 4:00-5:00 pm
Anna Stange returns to share with us holiday cheer as she sings Christmas & winter holiday songs in storybook form. Circle games, dances, and an indoor musical "Snowball" Freeze Fling are all part of a fun afternoon.

Saturday January 3rd
Winter Storyhour Registration begins today.
You can register for Preschool Storyhour, K-2 Storyhour and Field Days.
Storyhours begin on Janurary 14th and 15th.

Meet Miss Deb and Miss Sarah as they take Storyhour on the Road this fall. Meet them at the following locations for special storyhours during September!

Field Days - will be on Monday Sept 29th 4:00-5:00 pm,
Archeology is the theme and children must be in 3rd -6th grade.
Numbers are limited - register early!

Kindergarten - 2nd grade Storyhour
will be on Thursdays in October from 4:00 - 5:00pm
Numbers are limited - register early!

Preschool Storyhour will be on Wednesdays at 9:45am and 1:00pm
Children must be 3 years old and not yet in Kindergarten.

Parent Child Book Discussion will be on the first Thursdays of the Month. Children must be in the 4th grade up to 6th grade. Please register or see Miss Dee if you have questions about this group.

Drop-in programs will all be held on Thursdays in October.
Preschool drop-in will be at 9:45 am.
This will be a repeat of the Wednesday preschool programs.

Baby Bloomers will be at 10:45 am.
This is a drop-in program for all children from birth to 3 years old.

Summer Reading

GET IN THE GAME READ
Summer reading has begun. If you have not signed up for the summer reading program stop by the Youth Services desk to sign up. The summer reading program will end on Wednesday July 30th.

HOME RUN WEDNESDAYS
Join us on Wednesdays this summer for our Family Friendly programs.

July 2 - Movie day - 4:00pm - Sandlot III Heading Home

July 9 - Race Day - note special time 6:00-8:00 pm. Local racers, cool cars, games and more!

July 1 - Board Game Bonanza - 4:00 pm - Bring your favorite board game or try one of ours.

July 23- Gaming in the Great Outdoors - 4:00 pm - featuring Tumblebus and Climb On.

July 30 - Library night at the Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood. 7:00 pm
Starting on Monday July 14th you may stop by the youth services desk to pick up
4 FREE tickets per family. There is a limited number of tickets available and you must be registered for the summer reading program.

Aug 1 - Gold Medal Splash Fest at Dolphin Lake 10:15-11:45
Children earning at least 10 Reading Reward Dollars are invited to join with their family and the Youth Staff for the big summer finale. You must stop by the youth service desk by Wednesday July 30th to pick up your special pool pass in order to attend.

HOMEWOOD DAYS
Friday July 11 - Step into Homewood Days at the Homewood Library 11:00 am.
The James Hart Junior High Steppers will be performing some of their routines and teaching us all how to do some stepping of our own.

Spring Storyhours Begin This Week

Spring Storyhours begin on Wednesday March 19th

Tot Time Storyhour is for 2 to early 3 year olds. Caregivers and children enjoy this highly interactive storyhour together with games, songs, and stories. We meet on Wednesdays at 11:00 am, for 20minutes. You must register in person for this class.

Preschool Storyhour is for 3 to 5 year olds. This storyhour is just for preschoolers and it includes stories, songs, movie, craft and snack. We meet at 9:45am and another class is at 1:00pm. This is a 45 minute class. You must register in person for this class.

Special Field Days is TODAY at 4:00 pm.

The Soil Adventure Mobile is coming today. This is an exciting program being offered to us by the Field Museum. You must be registered to attend this program today. Call the Youth Services desk to see if there are any openings left. Call us at 708-798-0121 ext. 222.


Thursday Programs - March 20th

Drop-In Programs (Registration NOT required)

Preschool Storyhour is for 3 to 5 year olds. This storyhour is just for preschoolers and it includes stories, songs, movie, craft and snack. We meet at 9:45am and this is a repeat from the Wednesday storyhour.

Baby Bloomers Storyhours: Meets at 10:45 am11:15 am. This is a program for baby (newborn to 2 yrs old) and you. This 30 minute program will include 15 minutes of short stories, songs, finger plays and free time to socialize with your baby and other parents/caregivers. Baskets of books and toys will be available to share with your child.

K-2 Storyhour meets today at 4:00. This class is full for this session.

Starlight Family Storyhour Our new Starlight Family Storyhour will take the place of the previous Thursday night Preschool Storyhour. Starting tonight at 6:30-7:15, parents and siblings are encouraged to stay and enjoy stories, songs, movie, craft and snack. Wear your pajamas! We will be reading stories that parents and children will enjoy. No registration is required for this program.



Family Gaming

Our next Family Gaming day will be on Wednesday April 9th, from 4:00-5:00pm. We will be continuing our competitions in bowling, baseball, and tennis on the Wii system. The Wii system was generously given by the Carlson family to the Young Adults in memory of Samantha Carlson. There will also be some board games available to play.

Thursday February 7, 2008

Today will be a busy day at the Homewood Library. The day starts out with our Drop-In storyhour for 3-5 year olds. Join me at 9:45 as I share Valentine stories with you and we will have a special craft for you also.

Then at 10:45 our babies will be arriving for their Baby Bloomer Storyhour. This is also a drop in program for babies (0-2 yrs old) and a care giver. Toys and books are available to share with your children. I will read a couple of stories and we will sing a few songs together.

Kindergarten-2nd Grade Storyhour starts today at 4:00 pm for those that are registered. This program is filled for this session, but there will be another session in March and you may register by calling the youth desk at 708-798-0121 ext 222.

Then at 7:00 pm the Parent-Child Book Discussion group will meet to discuss Yankee Girl by Mary Ann Rodman. We will not be meeting in the meeting room so stop by the youth desk to find out where we will be.

Starlight Family Storyhour tonight at 6:30. This is also a drop-in program and all ages our welcome. Our feature author of the night will be Margaret Wise Brown.

Winter Programs

Youth Programs

Registration for Tot Time, Preschool Storyhour and K-2 Storyhour will begin January 12 at the Homewood Public Library. Space is limited for all these programs.

Tot Time Storyhour is for 2 to early 3 year olds. Caregivers and children enjoy this highly interactive storyhour together with games, songs, and stories. We will meet on Monday, January 21 through February 25 and Wednesday, January 23 through February 27, from 11:00-11:30. You must register in person for one of these days.

Preschool Storyhour is for 3 to 5 year olds. This storyhour is just for preschoolers and it includes stories, songs, movie, craft and snack. We will meet Wednesday, January 23 through February 27, from 9:45-10:30, and from 1:00-1:45.

K-2 Storyhour will meet Thursdays in February and again in April from 4:00-5:00, limit 20. This storyhour is geared for kindergartners through second graders and will feature stories, songs, craft, snack and a short movie. You may register for this program in person or over the phone.

Field Days Registration for Field Days at the Homewood Public Library begins January 12 for our January 28th program. You must register for each month’s program. You may register by phone or at the youth desk. Check our web page for more information. Field Days is a hands-on learning experiences that brings the wonders of the Field Museum to you! This program for 3rd-5th graders meets on the last Monday of each month from 4:00 to 5:00, limit 18.

January 28-Geology Rocks!: Learn how volcanoes work, what happens when there’s an earthquake, and discover treasures inside of ordinary rocks.

February 25-African Jewelry Making: Celebrate African American History Month by learning about African cultures, looking at African jewelry and creating your own to wear.

March 31-What We Wear Around the World: Look at actual clothes that people wear around the world and design your own shoe.

April 28-Underground Adventure: Do you like to dig in the dirt? Then come explore the world underneath your feet!

Feb. 7-Margaret Wise Brown: Snuggle up with your little bunny while listening to Goodnight Moon.

Feb. 14-Valentines Fun: Warm and fuzzy stories along with valentine making, and other special surprises!

Feb. 21-Curious George: Learn about a curious little monkey and his friend the man in the big yellow hat.

Feb. 28-Dr. Seuss: We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s upcoming birthday by reading stories and making a special birthday card.
